Sarawak Energy is alerting members of the public to be vigilant against fraudulent emails impersonating Sarawak Energy and its operations and retail arm - Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO).

These phishing emails were not issued by Sarawak Energy and fraudulently use the company’s name, branding or identities of its employees to appear legitimate. Their objective is to deceive recipients into disclosing confidential information, making payments to unauthorised bank accounts, or clicking on malicious links or attachments that may compromise personal or financial information.

As a reminder, Sarawak Energy will never request customers to disclose passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs) or other sensitive personal information via email. Customers will also never be asked to make payments to personal or unauthorised bank accounts.

Sarawak Energy is closely monitoring the situation and taking the necessary steps to address the issue.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

  • Verify the sender’s full email address carefully. Official Sarawak Energy email communications are issued using the @sarawakenergy.com domain. However, recipients are advised to exercise vigilance and independently verify any unusual or unexpected requests through Sarawak Energy's official channels.
  • Do not reply to suspicious emails, click on links or download attachments from unknown or unverified sources
  • Verify any request involving payment instructions or changes to bank account details directly with Sarawak Energy before making a transaction.
  • Make payments only through Sarawak Energy’s authorised billing and payment channels.
  • Exercise caution if an email appears to come from a Sarawak Energy employee but contains unusual requests, suspicious links, attachments or inconsistent sender information.
  • Contact Sarawak Energy through its official channels if there is any doubt regarding the authenticity of an email, payment requests or other communication.

Sarawak Energy assures customers that its official billing processes, authorised payment channels and customer service operations remain secure and unchanged.

Anyone who receives a suspicious email or other communication claiming to represent Sarawak Energy should report it immediately for verification before deleting it. Prompt reporting will help prevent others from becoming victims of similar scams.
