ELECTRICITY BILL DISCOUNT (BKSS)
EXTENSION OF ELECTRICITY DISCOUNTS FOR SARAWAK ENERGY ACCOUNT HOLDERS UNTIL DECEMBER 2023
Following the recent announcement, the Sarawak Government is extending the electricity discounts provided under the “Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang" scheme. These discounts will apply to electricity consumption from 1 July to 31 December 2023.
About 760,000 account holders from domestic, commercial and industrial sectors will continue to receive discounts ranging from 10 to 25 percent on their electricity bills.

Eligibility Criteria for C1 and I1 Tariff Customers
*Customers in the commercial tariff category C1 and industrial category I1 are eligible to a discount on their monthly electricity bill, provided their total consumption is less than 30,000 kWh from 1 July to 31 December 2023. However, the discount is not applied automatically. and customers need to submit an application.
The completed application must be submitted to Syarikat SESCO Berhad on or before 31 December 2023. This can be done through two convenient methods: Sending it via email to our Customer Care Centre at customercare@sarawakenergy.com, or by visiting the nearest customer service counter.
The discounts for domestic customers will be reflected automatically in the bills as below:

The discounts for C1 and I1 customers will be reflected in their bills between February and March 2024, upon approval of their submitted application.

2. I am a customer under the C1 or I1 tariff. Why do I need to apply for the electricity bill discount?
This is necessary to verify the validity of the business operation and ensure that the discounts are only granted to legitimate business owners with valid trade licences.
3. I am a customer under the C1 or I1 tariff. How do I apply for the discount?
Customers under the C1 and I1 tariffs are not automatically eligible for the discount. They need to apply, ensuring they meet the conditions outlined in the Eligibility Criteria for C1 and I1 Tariff Customers above. Applications can be submitted through the following channels:
- Nearest Sarawak Energy Customer Service Counter, or
- Email customercare@sarawakenergy.com.
When submitting your application, please provide the following documents:
- Valid trade licence,
- Valid tenancy agreement (if the registered electricity account holder’s name is different from the name on the Trade Licence) and
- A clear photo of your electricity bill showing the contract account number.
Applications must be submitted between 20 October 2023 and 31 December 2023. Any applications submitted after 31 December 2023 will not be considered.
4. I am a customer under the C1 or I1 tariff. What are the documents required when submitting my application for the discount?
The following documents are required for submission:
- Valid trade licence,
- Valid tenancy agreement (if the registered electricity account holder’s name is different from the name on the Trade Licence) and
- A clear photo of your electricity bill showing the contract account number.
5. I am a customer under the C1 or I1 tariff. How can I confirm if I qualify for the discount?
To be eligible for the discount, the total consumption between 1 July to 31 December 2023 must NOT exceed 30,000kWh during the entire discount period.
Unsuccessful applicants will receive notifications of their results through the e-mail address provided during the application submission. Successful applicants will see their discounts reflected in their electricity bills, either in February or March 2024.
6. I am a customer under the C1 or I1 tariff and I qualify for the discount. What is the discount amount and when will I receive it?
Customers under the C1 and I1 tariffs who qualify will receive a 15% discount for the C1 tariff and a 10% discount for the I1 tariff on electricity consumption between 1 July to 31 December 2023. The discount will be applied to their electricity account between February and March 2024 after eligibility verification.
7. Why can’t I receive my bill discount immediately on my next bill? Why do I have to wait until February or March 2024 as a C1 or I1 tariff user?
For users under the C1 and I1 tariff, we need to assess your electricity consumption from 1 July to 31 December 2023 and confirm that it does not exceed 30,000kWh during this period.
8. Will I still be eligible for the discount if I terminate my electricity account before 31 December 2023?
Yes, you will still be entitled to the discount as long as the electricity is consumed within the eligibility period. The discount will be pro-rated based on the date of account termination, and we will credit the discounted amount to your bank account after the eligibility check.
For C1 and I1 tariff users, your discount will also be pro-rated in February or March 2024, provided your total consumption does NOT exceed 30,000kWh during the entire discount period.
9. My meter was replaced sometime between 1 July to 31 December 2023, due to a faulty or tampered meter. Am I still entitled to receive a discount?
Yes, you are still eligible as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. For C1 and I1 tariff customers, your total consumption should NOT exceed 30,000kWh during the entire discount period.
10. I am a business owner and a C1/I1 tariff user. The electricity account is registered under my own name, and I do not possess a trade license. Will I still qualify for the discount under this tariff?
No, if you are a business entity utilising either the C1 or I1 tariff, you must provide a valid trade license to apply for the electricity bill discount. Those who fail to provide a valid trade licence will not be eligible for the discount.
11. Will there be any further discounts after 31 December 2023?
As announced by the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), there will be no further discounts for electricity consumption after 31 December 2023.
