KUCHING

25 MARCH 2026

Sarawak Energy has formalised a collaboration with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance access to quality education and improve student learning outcomes across the state.

The agreement was signed at Menara Sarawak Energy by Sarawak Energy and TFM. Sarawak Energy was represented by Senior Vice President for Corporate Services Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan, with the signing witnessed by Senior Vice President for Legal and Compliance George Chapman, in the presence of Group Chief Operating Officer Dato Ir. James Ung and Senior Vice President for Health, Safety, Security and Environment, Marconi Madai. TFM was represented by Chief Executive Officer Chan Soon Seng, with Director of Growth Fam Li Ying as witness.

The collaboration, which is Sarawak Energy’s first with TFM, will see the implementation of the Teach for Malaysia programme in Sarawak.

“This collaboration reflects Sarawak Energy’s commitment to supporting education and young people as part of our broader social investment efforts. Through this partnership with Teach For Malaysia, we hope to strengthen access to quality education, improve learning outcomes and create meaningful impact for students and school communities, particularly in areas where we operate,” said Senior Vice President for Corporate Services Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan.

Phase 1 of the programme involves the recruitment, training and placement of 13 Fellows in schools in the Sejingkat area comprising SK Bako, SK Muara Tebas, SK Goebilt, SK Kampung Senari and SK Pajar Sejingkat, where they work alongside teachers to support classroom learning and student development, contributing to long-term academic improvement.

Commenting on the partnership with TFM, Dato Ir. James said, “Sarawak Energy remains focused on supporting long-term community development through initiatives that deliver meaningful outcomes. Efforts like this contribute to building a stronger talent pipeline for Sarawak, supporting the State’s continued progress towards becoming a developed and high-income economy.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with Sarawak Energy Berhad to support students in underserved communities across the region. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to transforming outcomes for students from underserved communities in Sarawak, while investing in the development of young leaders who will continue to serve and uplift their schools and communities. In the long run, we aim to build a high-impact talent pipeline that will fuel Sarawak’s long-term transformation aspirations and contribute towards Sarawak’s aspirations of building an economically prosperous and inclusive future,” said Chan Soon Seng.

The company recently hosted a 30-member delegation from TFM at Menara Sarawak Energy in preparation for the programme rollout. The engagement included knowledge sharing sessions, discussions on supporting students and teachers, as well as an overview of Sarawak Energy’s sustainability and community initiatives.

TFM brings experience in talent development and systemic education improvement, which will support the implementation of initiatives tailored to local communities.

Following Phase 1, there are plans to expand the programme to other areas near Sarawak Energy’s facilities, such as Batang Ai, as part of the company’s continued support for education and youth in the communities it serves.

The collaboration between Sarawak Energy and TFM contributes to broader efforts to strengthen community development and create opportunities for future generations in Sarawak.
