Sarawak Energy has taken measures to ensure reliable electricity supply throughout Sarawak for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period. Through its operation and retail arm, Syarikat SESCO Berhad, power systems are continuously monitored with teams on standby to respond to unforeseen supply interruptions. Additional contingency resources, including mobile generator sets, will also be deployed to critical locations if required.
SESCO Chief Executive Officer, Lau Kim Swee, said the organisation is well prepared to ensure electricity supply reliability throughout the festive period.
“Our teams are closely monitoring the system to safeguard supply reliability. With experienced personnel on 24-hour standby, we are ready to respond swiftly to any disruption, supported by mobile generator units where necessary,” said Lau.
Sarawak Energy urges customers to also observe the following safe electricity best practices to help ensure a smooth and festive season:
- Check your electrical wiring – Ensure household wiring is in good condition to prevent power trips or faults during the festivities.
- Use power outlets safely and responsibly – Do not overload sockets with multiple adapters or extension cables, as this can lead to overheating and potential fire hazards.
- Handle extension cords properly – Keep them untangled and avoid placing them under carpets or furniture to prevent overheating.
- Use Electricity Wisely – Customers are encouraged to use electricity sensibly, as collective efforts help support a stable and reliable power supply for all.
- Monitor nearby power lines – Report any trees or vegetation encroaching on overhead lines to Sarawak Energy.
- Be vigilant against electrical crimes – Report any suspicious activity near power facilities to help prevent outages caused by cable theft or vandalism.
- Excavation safety – Contractors and property owners should always check with Sarawak Energy before carrying out digging works to avoid damaging underground cables.
Landlords and tenants are reminded of the importance of maintaining safe and compliant electrical installations, as faulty wiring or illegal connections may pose serious safety risks. Any electrical concerns or suspicious activities can be reported to Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111, via email at customercare@sarawakenergy.com, through the SEB cares mobile app or web portal, or by chatting with its virtual agent CARINA.
