Sarawak Energy Recognised for Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health at the 43rd Msosh Awards 2025

Sarawak Energy has reaffirmed its leadership in workplace safety and health by receiving 23 awards at the 43rd Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) Awards 2025. The recognition highlights Sarawak Energy’s ongoing commitment to embedding a strong and people centred safety culture across all levels of its operations.

The annual awards, themed “Celebrating Achievements, Inspiring the Future,” recognise organisations that demonstrate consistent and effective implementation of occupational safety and health (OSH) management systems.

Among this year’s highlights, the Murum Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) and Kuching Regional Office received the Grand Awards, one of the highest awards presented at the MSOSH Awards. The awards celebrate and recognise their exemplary occupational safety and health practices, proactive risk management and strong commitment to a continuous improvement culture.

Several other Sarawak Energy facilities received Gold Merit, Gold Class I and Gold Class II awards, reflecting the consistent application of OSH standards across generation, transmission and distribution operations throughout Sarawak.

Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili said the recognition demonstrate the organisation’s collective commitment to ensuring that every employee, contractor and partner works in a safe environment.

“Safety is our top priority and an integral part of how we operate. It goes beyond compliance and reflects our responsibility to protect our people, our partners and the communities we serve. These recognitions reaffirm the dedication of our teams across Sarawak Energy in upholding our HSSE values,” said Sharbini.

Sharbini added that the company continues to strengthen its safety culture through proactive risk management, technology integration and capability building initiatives.

“We continue to innovate through safety tools, predictive analytics and knowledge sharing programmes to improve awareness and accountability at every level,” he said.

Over the past year, Sarawak Energy has introduced several initiatives aimed at enhancing operational safety and employee wellbeing, including digital incident reporting systems, safety leadership programmes and joint community OSH campaigns. These efforts have contributed to a consistent reduction in workplace incidents and strengthened compliance with international standards such as ISO 45001.

The 43rd MSOSH Awards Ceremony was officiated by The Honourable Datuk Seri Dr Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health, and attended by Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government; The Honourable Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), and other senior government officials.

Organised annually by MSOSH, the awards recognise organisations demonstrating consistent performance in occupational safety and health. Assessments are based on documentation reviews and on-site audits conducted by qualified MSOSH auditors.

Sarawak Energy continues to align its Environment and Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) Policy and HSSE framework with international practices, focusing on operational discipline, shared accountability and continuous improvement.

Kuching Regional Office was honoured with the Grand Award at the 43rd Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health Awards. The recognition was received on behalf of Sarawak Energy by Effendy Syaiful bin Abdullah, General Manager for Western Region.

Murum Hydroelectric Plant received the Grand Award at the 43rd Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health Awards. The award was accepted on behalf of Sarawak Energy by Annevella Anak Matthew, Station Manager of the Murum Hydroelectric Plant.
