KUCHING
6 AUGUST 2025
Sarawak Energy’s commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable workplace has been recognised with the Anugerah Khas Premier Sarawak: Organisasi Responsif D2EI (Premier of Sarawak’s Special Award: D2EI Responsive Organisation).
The award was presented at the Sarawak Women’s Day 2025 celebration held on 2 August at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex. Themed “Diversity, Equality, Equity & Inclusivity (D2EI),” this year’s event was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari.
Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, Group Chief Executive Officer for Sarawak Energy, received the award from the Premier on behalf of the organisation. Sharbini also serves as Chair to the Sarawak Energy Leading Women Network (SELWN) Council, which comprises senior leaders from across the Group’s core businesses and subsidiaries.
“This recognition is a reflection of the collective effort by many individuals across Sarawak Energy who are working to build a more inclusive and supportive workplace. We will continue to strengthen our efforts to create lasting impact through shared values, equal access and leadership development,” said Sharbini.
The award acknowledges Sarawak Energy’s continuous efforts to promote gender equality through leadership development, inclusive policies and initiatives that support workforce participation.
Earlier, on 31 July, Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice President for Corporate Services, Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan, was featured in the Sarawak Women Creating Legacies book in recognition of her contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and youth empowerment. Launched by the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak, the book profiles 27 Sarawakian women who have shaped progress across various sectors – from public service and business to advocacy and community development.
Her efforts include championing the Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment initiative and advocating for greater female representation in leadership, helping to shape Sarawak Energy’s inclusive culture.
Since 2017, the organisation has driven these efforts through SELWN, which focuses on leadership development, mentorship and strengthening organisational culture. Programmes under SELWN include the Women Mentoring Women initiative, which connects female employees across departments to support professional growth and peer guidance.
DEI targets are also part of Sarawak Energy’s annual corporate scorecard, reflecting a measurable commitment to improving representation and advancing inclusive policies.
The company continues to strengthen its female leadership pipeline, with rising participation of women in operational, managerial and board-level roles across the group and its subsidiaries. These efforts also align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality and support Malaysia’s national target of 30 percent women in decision-making roles.
Sarawak Energy also supports work-life integration through long-term measures such as Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA), onsite childcare centres and nursing facilities. The SELWN Careline, established in 2023, provides a safe reporting platform for workplace harassment cases.
The organisation is also a signatory to the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and received the Malaysia WEPs Award in 2024 under the Community Engagement and Partnerships category. The recognition was for the Handicraft Development Programme, which supports Penan women near the Murum Hydroelectric Plant by helping preserve traditional rattan weaving skills and encouraging economic independence.
Sarawak Energy was also recognised with the Anugerah Wanita MyWIRA during TalentCorp’s Women Empowerment Week in 2024. This national award highlights the organisation’s continuous efforts in empowering women and promoting inclusive workplace practices.
The company remains committed to supporting inclusive and gender-equitable practices as it continues to uphold principles of sustainable growth and responsible governance.
