Isthmus Run 2025 Celebrates 10th Edition With Full Marathon Debut And International Accreditation

More than 5,800 runners are gearing up to race in the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run 2025, set to the be event’s largest turnout since its inception in 2013. Taking place on 10 August 2025 at the Kuching Isthmus, the run is Sarawak Energy’s annual flagship sporting event and a key platform for promoting health, community and sustainability. It also complements the civic spirit of the Kuching City Day celebration on 1 August, drawing participants from Sarawak, across Malaysia and 14 other countries including Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, Ethiopia and Kenya.
To mark its 10th edition, this year’s race will feature the 42KM Full Marathon for the first time, with over 400 runners registered in the category. Other categories include the 21KM Half Marathon, 10KM Competitive Run and 5KM Fun Run.
For the first time, the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run features routes certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), with both the Full Marathon and the Half Marathon courses officially measured to international standards by the global distance running body. Runners will take on a scenic route through the Kuching Isthmus, passing the city’s iconic landmarks including the Darul Hana Bridge, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building, the Borneo Cultures Museum, the Kuching cat statue and the Kuching Waterfront.
This year’s edition also offers a total prize pool of RM185,500 in cash prizes across all categories. Winners of the men’s and women’s open Full Marathon categories will each receive RM10,000. In addition to competitive rewards, runners will also be eligible for a lucky draw featuring prizes worth up to RM25,000, including return air tickets to Japan or South Korea, an iPhone 16 Pro, and a 75” Smart TV.
As part of Sarawak Energy’s commitment to giving back, 100% of registration proceeds from the Isthmus Run 2025 will be channelled to charitable causes. Last year’s proceeds of RM180,000 were distributed equally to selected charitable organisations.
To ensure the safety of runners, event personnel and the public, traffic management measures will be implemented throughout the race routes. A full road closure will be enforced from the Isthmus River Bridge to the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), beginning at 8.00pm on Saturday, 9 August 2025, and ending at 10.00am on Sunday, 10 August 2025.
Partial road closures will also be in effect along key routes throughout Kuching, including: Jalan Keriung, Jalan Berlian, Jalan Merbau, Jalan Pelabuhan, Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, Jalan Pending, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Abell, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Badruddin, Jalan Satok, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Semariang, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Sallehuddin and Jalan Astana.
These partial closures will be gradually lifted as the run progresses and will conclude by
10.00am on 10 August.
Traffic marshals and enforcement personnel will be stationed along affected roads to guide motorists and ensure the smooth flow of the event. Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.
To support a smooth race-day experience, Sarawak Energy will provide complimentary shuttle services between Riverside Majestic Hotel and Menara Sarawak Energy. Services are scheduled according to each flag-off time as follows:
- 42KM Full Marathon: Pick-ups at 11.30pm and 11.45pm on 9 August
- 21KM Half Marathon: Pick-ups at 2.30am and 2.45a
- 10KM Competitive Run: Pick-ups at 3.30am and 3.45am
- 5KM Fun Run: Pick-ups at 4.30am and 4.45am
Return trips to the hotel will be available after the closing ceremony, with departures at 9.00am, 9.30am and 10.00am from Menara Sarawak Energy. A combination of electric buses and chartered buses will be deployed to support sustainable and efficient transport for all participants.
