Homeowners Advised To Consult Local Councils, Public Utilities, Before House Renovation

KUCHING

The public is asked to consider the impact on existing electrical infrastructure when renovating or extending their properties to avoid disruptions to the network, prevent inconvenience and ensure public safety. Relevant local councils or utilities must be consulted before starting any renovation or extension works to maintain the structural integrity of public utility facilities.

In a recently highlighted concern regarding a property at Lorong Westwood 2 in Kuching, a gate extension caused a cable brace, also known as a stay wire, to be inadvertently positioned on the driveway after the work was completed, obstructing the entrance.

Initially, the stay wire was installed outside the original fencing and did not obstruct access. However, the homeowner's gate extension was built beyond the stay wire, affecting the accessibility of the widened driveway.

Stay wires are critical components of the electricity network, as they stabilise poles and help ensure a reliable power supply.

Sarawak Energy understands the inconvenience faced by the homeowner and is committed to working towards a solution, while prioritising public safety and the reliability of electricity supply for its valued customers.

Customers with complaints or concerns are encouraged to contact Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1-300-88-3111, email customercare@sarawakenergy.com or make a report via the ‘SEB cares’ mobile app or web portal.
